Enhancing Ethiopia’s participation in the UNFCCC

Ethiopia’s human and economic development is being hampered by the negative effects of climate change. Major consequences for the country result from decisions taken at the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including those concerning funding, adaptation, mitigation, technology, and capacity building. It is crucial that Ethiopia participate effectively in intergovernmental climate change negotiations, decision-making processes, and the eventual implementation of the decisions made in order to guarantee that the interests of the country are adequately and fairly reflected in the ongoing climate change negotiations.

Hence enhancing Ethiopia’s participation in international environment and climate treaty processes is of paramount importance. Eco-justice Ethiopia is always on the lookout for potential partners to support this initiative.

We offer trainings with the overall objective of strengthening Ethiopia’s negotiators' understanding of the mechanics of the UNFCCC negotiating process and how they can effectively support the country’s delegations on the main issues contributing to entry into force of the agreements aimed at limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
